In our last session, we learnt a lot about how the web works. Now, we will move towards going through the steps involved in creating a website! and learn about how to make money from website. Getting Your Own Website and make money from your niche website.
We’ll cover every step in detail slowly for complete understanding, but today we’ll give you an overview.
If you have already created a blog and do not wish to create a website, you can continue to work upon your blog and try to improve it.
However, several members wish to own a website instead or create a website as an extension to their blogs.
This begins the same way you did to create a blog – think of an idea or topic!
Following will be the order of steps that you would need to complete to get started with owning a website –

Step-1: Choosing your niche for your website to make money (covered in the next chapter)
Choosing your website’s topic is a very important step. Start making a list of what you like to do, what you are really passionate about and what topics you can make a website on. It can be about almost anything – cooking, health, fitness, skin care, travel, finance, sports, gadgets, technology, games etc.
Step-2: Getting your domain name (details in the later chapter)
Of course, you’ll have to register a domain name for your website. Make sure it is brandable and easy to remember.
Step-3: Getting web hosting space (details in the later chapter)
Your website will be hosted here (i.e. stay here on the Internet so that anyone can reach it).
Step-4: Creating your website in HTML and/or creating your WordPress blog (details in the later chapter)
HTML is the basic language your website will be built it. In addition to HTML, we’ll teach you how to build a website using readymade layouts and templates, without the use of any major technical knowledge.
Below are some of the options that you can consider for creating a website –
1. wordpress.com
2. weebly.com
3. wix.com
Let’s go through the steps you need to take to get started on wordpress.com, for example.
1. Visit wordpress.com and click on ‘Create a Website‘.
2. Click on ‘Get Started’ and select a Category that broadly defines the topic you have chosen for your website. After you select a General Category, you will be asked to choose a specific category for your website.
3. The next step will take you to a Gallery from where you can select a Theme or Layout for the website. If you are unsure of this step, you can select one and change it later.

As mentioned in the four steps given at the start of the chapter, you’ll soon have your own website on the Internet accessible by everyone. Once your website is up, we’ll start working on various online marketing techniques.
